Description

The distance to the nebulae is about 620 light years. IC59 located at the bottom and IC63 at the top of the image. These nebulae are collectively known as Sharpless 2-185 (Sh 2-185). Both are illuminated by the star Gamma Cass. The IC63 is pointed at this star and is more defined than the IC59. Spectroscopic measurements suggest that the IC59 is slightly colder (590K) and less dense than the IC63, at 630K.
